Covid 19 has put a damper on our hockey plans since the start but our hockey family has always stuck together in these trying times. The Spirit of Hockey has been alive and strong in our community and in our association.
For the past couple of years, we had multiple nominations for our annual Spirit of Hockey Awards and although so many were worthy of the award, we had 2 recipients that stood out to us this year.
After a final in minor softball, our second recipient was presented with the Spirit of Hockey Award. AJ Dunne is a player in his second year U18 and loves the game of hockey. AJ was nominated for the award based on his willingness to support not only his teammates but his opponents as well. He could be found at house league games proudly wearing his house league jersey with his own team or the opposing team's jersey to create enough to have a game. AJ has been known to do it all with a smile on his face as long as he gets a game of hockey. When a goal is scored or a great pass made, you can always hear the screams of support for AJ from his teammates. We were later told that AJ used his award-winnings to better his hockey skills in the Extreme Hockey Camp that was hosted here in Marystown on opening weekend.
As recipients of the Spirit of Hockey Awards, both Players were presented with a certificate on behalf of the association and a $150 cheque on behalf of an anonymous donator to the association. We look forward to this award annually and can’t wait to see our future recipients. We thank our coaches and directors for helping us with the awards and extra thanks to our supporters for helping us create such an award.
Congratulations AJ!!
